Dates and times (must participate in all sessions below AND complete the mandatory e-learning to be eligible for certification):

Friday, May 17th - 5pm - 9pm

Saturday, May 18th - 11am - 8pm

Sunday, May 19th - 11am - 8pm

***You must be 15 year old by the last day of class in order to register***

Location: Hicksville High School – 180 Division Ave, Hicksville, NY 11801. (Class will take place in the aquatics building at Hicksville High School)

E-Learning Modules: You MUST complete 19 online learning modules on Pectora before the first day of class (The modules take approximately 8-10 hours to complete).

Online Final Written Exam: this will be assigned after the completion of your mandatory e-learning. One attempt must be completed by the first in-person day of class.

Cost of class: American Pool applicants are charged $150 registration fee. This class is ONLY for American Pool employees willing to work throughout the summer. 

Please bring the following (Each day):

-Bathing suit

-Change of clothes

-2 towels

-Food, snacks, water

-Pen and paper for note taking 

-Goggles (recommended)

-Lock (recommended)

-Hair tie or swim cap for those with long hair (recommended)

Pretest requirements (done on the first day of class):

1. Swim 100 yards without stopping (Front crawl, breaststroke or combination of the two). 

2. Perform a feet first surface dive, retrieve a 10-lb. brick from the deep end of the pool, and bring it to the surface. 

3. Tread water without using arms for 1 minute. 

4. Exit from the water without the use of a ladder

*You must already know how to swim - this is NOT a learn to swim program*

Attendance Policy  (please read thoroughly)

Lateness: Students must arrive on time to each session and be present the entire duration of the class. If a student arrives more than 15 minutes late, they may be denied access to the course. 

Rescheduling:  If a student registers and notices they cannot attend the class due to a conflict, they must alert us AT LEAST two weeks in advance in order to be moved to another class. If a student must reschedule due to an unforeseen emergency (family death, illness, etc), they must alert us prior to the start time of the class and prepare to show documentation of the emergency (obituary, doctors note, etc). No refunds will be given. 

No shows: For those who register but do not show up to the class, a refund WILL NOT be given and the individual cannot reschedule. Anyone who shows up over an hour late will be considered a NO SHOW and will not receive a refund or be able to reschedule.

Failing any portion of the course: If a student fails any portion of the class, they will be eligible for ONE free retake of the course with no additional charges.

Course Description

An international renowned, hands-on lifeguard course that is highly interactive and physically enduring. The course is a comprehensive training program that promotes objective driven and performance based training for individuals wishing to obtain a new ILTP™ certification for shallow water, pool, special facilities, and/or open water, in various water depths ranging from less than 5` feet of water up to any depth and/or open water. Our International Lifeguard Training Programs (ILTP™) are designed and intended to be delivered as part of an integrated curriculum that includes water rescue techniques, First Aid, Health Care Provider CPR, Emergency Oxygen Support, and Automated External Defibrillation as a first responder.  This course requires students to perform each concept taught in the course, through student demonstrations of all skills concepts and skills instructed.  Students will participate in lifeguarding roles throughout the class and are expected to perform lifeguard duties as first responders.  Students will perform on deck and in water simulations, drills and exercises for rescue techniques as an individual and in team scenarios as part of multiple rescuers drills.  The ILTP Lifeguard course materials are available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai and simplified Chinese languages.  Students that successfully complete the ILTP Lifeguard course obtain an ILTP certificate that is valid for one (1) year. Annual renewal is required. Successful candidates can earn anywhere from 2.2 to 2.6 IACET CEUs depending on the level of certification achieved in the program.
